  • The 'GRAMPIAN GUIDELINES' are a working document of the paediatric department of Dr.Gray's Hospital, Elgin. This hospital is part of the NHS GRAMPIAN hospitals. The paediatric staff in Elgin, together with the RACH, has formulated a number of guidelines for the management of paediatric problems in Moray. These guidelines are specified for paediatric care in remote areas. The guidelines are the Elginised version of the general paediatric protocols as they are published by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the SIGN Guidelines and from paediatric literature. The object of the Elgin guidelines is to educate the junior staff (GPVTS trainees), continuity of care and to do that with the best possible evidence base for it.

Advices for treatment have different level of evidence. Protocols have the highest level, guidelines are the advices with enough evidence to function as a practical guide in a certain environment and are therefore only to be used in their own area, such as a local hospital. For others they serve as information.
